  • Praise God! Things are Selling!

You all are great--stuff is flying into the "SOLD" category almost as fast as I can list it. THANK YOU SO MUCH, on behalf of the orphans!!!!!!!!

Really all that is currently left for sale is the lot of little girl sleepers! (Well, the Kwik Sew book hasn't sold for sure yet, but I have a strong nibble! So it's currently not up for grabs.) Surely someone wants the cute sleepers?! No one seems to want to make an offer for them or something . . .  should I just put a price on? There are six sleepers, all in the 6-9 month size range, and nice brands.

    2009-10 174

I'll post more items as soon as I can, but it might have to wait for another day. It's getting late, and I'm still needing to do a few things before I go to bed. . . .

I'm really excited . . . it's so neat to see God bringing in the "Little Loaves and Fishes" that will bless the lives of the sweet children in other countries!! Thank you again for obeying God's command to care.

    So Much Fun

  • Kwik Sew Book for SALE

    2009-10 259

This first printing book from 1978 is full of time-less tips and techniques to help you be able to successfully sew your own lingerie. (isn't that a lovely word?!) It still includes the master pattern in the back, folded, and not used at all as nearly as I can tell without taking the pattern totally out and messing it up to inspect it thoroughly. Book is still in very good condition, and should be a welcome addition to anyone's sewing library.

Asking $5.00 plus MEDIA MAIL shipping and handling.

Again, all proceeds will go to fund the Little Loaves and Fishes trips to help special needs orphans in Eastern European countries! Thank you for looking--and if you don't need it, please feel free to spread the word via your blogs and facebook.

  • A Batch of Girl's Clothing

These items are also for sale from our non-smoking home.

First dress is one I made for my daughter. It was worn for church, and is in gently used condition with no tears, holes or stains that I am aware of. It's in a cheery spring print.

    2009-10 247

Total length from middle of shoulder seam to bottom of hem is 33 and 3/4 inch approx. Waist is intended to be loose fitting--about 30 inches all the way around. From shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the front is 11 inches. Fastens in back with a zipper for ease of dressing.

Next is a "Cherokee" brand size L blouse with cute sleeves that tie (in the picture, one sleeve is tied, and the other untied to give you an idea). It buttons up the front, and has cute pink roses tastefully embroidered on the collar. Kristina wore it with the "My Michelle" size 7 jumper/sundress that is pictured.

    2009-10 250

    View of the back:

    2009-10 251

And last but not least, this adorable "Mousefeathers Vintage" dress in a size 8.

    2009-10 252

Kristina wore it for Easter, and a few other Sundays. Full skirt with built in slip, piping, a sash to tie in back, and three cute rosettes around the neck edge.

    2009-10 254

As far as I know, there are no holes, stains or tears on these items.

Asking $7.00 plus shipping and handling for the lot of them, and willing to combine shipping if you purchase another item(s) with them! Again, all proceeds will go to help Little Loaves and Fishes!

  • More Fund Raising

Still working on the fund raising for LLAF.

For sale still are the girl's cordoroy jumper and the set of little girl sleepers--really cute things! I'd buy them for my little girl if I were having one.

Also, "Jazz Up Your Jeans--Tips and Tricks to Wake Up Your Wardrobe" by American Girl--this is a first edition book. A similar copy (also first edition) is selling for $5.40 plus shipping on Amazon.

I'm asking $4.99 TOTAL--that includes MEDIA MAIL shipping and handling in the "mainland" USA. All proceeds after shipping expenses go directly to the LLAF FUND. Some girl in  your life surely would enjoy this book, as the tips given go well beyond "jeans" to include other articles of clothing such as shoes and T-shirts etc.

    2009-10 246

And best of all, orphans in a far away country, and in Russia, will be glad someone cared . . .  Stay tuned, as I add more things in the next few days!!

  • A Happy Day!!

Charity went off to learn how to make noodles today. She said she felt really at home at the O's house--thanks, Shellie! Here she is cranking dough through.

    Noodles Drying

    2009-10 241

And cooking . . . . These turned out more like dumplings because of still being fresh and doughy, Charity said.

    2009-10 238

She brought some home that are drying on towels (since we don't have a drying rack) on our kitchen table. I'm sure we will enjoy them too! I think it's time to shop for a noodle roller or whatever it's called!

    **********************************************

Tonight we went off to our Thanksgiving Supper. It was SOOOOOO yummy! Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, veggies, and sweet potato casserole, plus fresh rolls, and then pie and ice cream for dessert. I've never tasted turkey as good as my friend, Ruth, can make it! I don't know her secret, but it's the best! Dale, our friend who went with us, enjoyed the meal and the special singing as well. There was a nice crowd of people there in addition to our church.

The best thing?? There are enough left-overs that we are having a second run of it on Sunday for lunch--all we need to bring is dessert! Fun!

    ***********************************************************

Charity's BIG DAY is tomorrow--she's up at the crack of dawn (or earlier) with her Daddy to go HUNTING for the first time! She's got pre-hunt nervousness . . . . afraid she will only hit and wound the deer rather than kill it cleanly. We told her to just do her best, and not worry about the rest--that's giving her slim comfort right now though.

    *****************************************

I started cutting out the pattern I need tonight to make Kristina a corderoy skirt. She picked out the fabric at JoAnn's when it was on sale awhile ago. I hope that I end up liking the pattern so that I can use it often for her.

    ******************************

It's been a fun day, with lots of happiness. Now it's time to go to bed! I'm tired!

    Too Cool

The other day my charming and intrepid cook said to me, "Mommy, I wish I could learn to make spelt noodles." I said, "I imagine you could learn, and I hope you do, because spelt noodles are SO expensive to buy."

A few days later .. . I'm in the health food store chatting with a friend when she mentions that as part of her Thanksgiving prep she is going to be making spelt noodles this week! BINGO! Charity will be sallying forth to her house Friday afternoon with spelt flour to learn the fine art of noodle making!

Looking forward to yummy home-made noodles!

And I can guess what will be on Charity's wish list for Christmas--a noodle crank (or whatever they are called! I better start researching, eh?! Maybe I can find an in-expensive one online?)

  • Some things still for sale

The boy's clothing has sold! Thanks to Peaceful Lady.

The girl's winter-green jumper is still for sale, as are the baby girl sleepers. See my previous post for more info, and feel free to ask for more details if you need them to help you decide that you really *do* want to buy them.

Pleae continue to check back regularly, as I will be continuing to post things as we do our best to raise funds for the trip to the oprhanages. While I believe that God could make this happen without my bothering to raise my little finger, I also believe He is pleased when I do my best to make sure it can happen. That means pinching pennies on this end so that I can contribute our own money, as well as raising funds by seeking donations, and selling things to raise money.

    ***************************

Paul's day started out early with a early morning breakfast with the other men in our small group to celebrate one of the men's birthday. Happy Birthday, Marlin!

Kristina was able to get an outing with her Daddy today. He needed to go pick up some fencing supplies to install a gate at a cell phone tower. The place he got his supplies from was close to a Stride Rite outlet shoe store, so we took the chance to get her the winter shoes she needed. (She's still been wearing her summer water shoes, and while that was working, it isn't going to work much longer.) She came home the happy owner of these:

    2009-10 234

Today had a little twist of un-wanted excitement when Todd got home after Science class to realize he was missing his briefcase. He'd thrown it into the back of Paul's pick up truck when helping transfer some tools from the front of the truck to the bed of the truck to make room for him to ride home with Paul and Kristina.  Evidently it'd fallen out of the pick up on the ride home . . . included in it were his Science class papers--some he'd already done, and others he had not. Paul drove TWICE over the route home, looking again for it. No luck.

After violin and our errands were done in town, I drove the same route home, very slowly, while Charity literally hung her head out the window. She spotted it! but we were already past with no spot to pull over so I had to keep on going for abit down the road till we could turn around and go back past it again on the other side, then find another spot to turn around, and repeat heading towards home. That time, she spotted it in time I could stop directly across from it and Charity jumped out and rescued it. The papers were already getting wet from the rain, but they should still be use-able. Todd was very relieved that it came home! And he didn't even mind that he had to do a "Marine carry" for Charity to get her back into the house since in the process of rescuing his briefcase her shoes were drenched in ditch water, and she'd shucked them promptly after getting back into the van.

We came home to the yummy smells of BBQ Chicken, and baked Irish and Sweet potatoes emanting from the oven. There was time for some target practice for Charity (she's getting good at hitting the target!) before dark, and then supper (which tasted as yummy as it smelled! Chad asked if we were having a party! "A party?" I said, "Do you mean it's a party because you like the food so good?!" )

Another chapter in "Jungle Doctor" as we all relaxed after supper .. . now it's time to start settling children into bed. . . . tomorrow will be another busy day with other activities, including another flight lesson for Todd, weather permitting. All the children are looking forward to the fun and games with the homeschoolers at the FH. I'm looking forward to the time too for the exercise and a chance to see my friends. It seems we are getting into a nice routine for the school year, and it feels good.

The other day, this is what I found in Chad's room:

    2009-10 232

Kristina was looking at the Picture Bible Story book with Chad yesterday. They were both very interested in the story! (Chad's bed had been stripped so his bedding could be washed--ignore how stark it looks without any bedding, please! He went to bed last night with it all appropriately made back up.)

God is good and Life is good! I hope you are finding it so in your life also.

  • For Sale

I'm still raising funds for the next Little Loaves and Fishes trip. We will be returning, Lord willing, to the orphanage where we were previously for follow up care with the children, as well as a side trip to Yoshkar Ola, Russia (God providing the funds) to assess what we can do to help there in an orphanage and a special needs school in a future trip (hopefully one sometime in mid-spring or else early fall).

So, I still have the cute little girl sleepers that were listed here, as well as some other items.

Little Girl's Forest Green cord jumper. 32.5 inches approx. from middle of shoulder seam to bottom hem. (I'm willing to hem for free if you wish it a bit shorter). I made this jumper for my oldest daughter when she was younger. She wore it for church, so it's still in good shape. No holes, tears, or rips that I know of. A loose fitting style that pops over the head. Asking $4.00 plus shipping and handling.

    2009-10 061

I also have a collection of boy's clothing that Chad out-grew. Asking $10.00 for this, plus shipping and handling. 2009-10 070

OR if I can arange to meet you, you can have them for $10.00 flat!

These items are all in the general 3/4T range, and are nice brands like "Old Navy", "Gap" and "Gymboree" etc. There are pants, shirts, sweaters, a vest, a pair of Land's End shoes, Tommy Hilfiger sandals etc. Most of these items were worn by my son for church and so are still in good shape. Two pairs of pants are too worn for church, but could still be worn around the house easily. There is also a pair of Old Navy PJ's (with the sharks on bottom left of pix) that while wearable still, have seen good wear.  I welcome questions from any one serious about buying.

Remember, the proceeds of these items ALL will go to help fund the work we are called to do with orphans.

And if you don't need any children's clothing in these sizes?! Well, feel free to link to this post on your blogs, Facebook etc. and spread the word. Little Loaves and Fishes also welcomes monetary donations of any amount, and is happy for anyone who wishes to do a fundraiser to assist in gathering funds. We also would accept some donations of items you might wish to donate that we could sell to raise funds.

Most of all, we welcome your prayers for the orphans, for us as we seek to make a difference in their lives, and for God to touch the hearts of Who ever He wants to be part of the up-coming teams.

Wishing you a day touched with His love!

    Jungle Doctor Pulls a Leg
    By Paul White
    see related

    Random Bits

This weekend we started another Jungle Doctor book. One of the pleasant things about the fall months is the chance to sit around in the evening reading. Since Paul is home now from his out-of-town work, each evening is another chance to enjoy a new chapter as an entire family. Chad still doesn't quite get all of the story, but he enjoys when there is a picture, and he's starting to get some of it--enough that he mostly wants to hang around on Paul's or my lap fiddling with something but still keeping an ear out. Todd says he likes this book better than the previous Jungle Doctor book we read--I told him it was just because this one writes about the "Flying Doctor" who had started working, and he grinned and agreed that the airplane references were the reason for his extra interest.

    ************************************

Chad and Kristina thought that they had to do a Treasure Hunt today with a MAP. Charity made them one in the "Paint" program on the computer, printed it off, and gave it to them. They were pleased when they finally found their "treasure" taped on the underside of one of the swings.

    ************************************************

Yesterday afternoon our church had a Baptismal Service down at the river, and then the evening service was a Post-Baptismal service, with a fellowship meal afterwards. It was VERY late till we got home--after 11:00 p.m. but we'd had a good time.

    ************************

And for those of you who wanted "BEFORE" Todd's haircut--this was taken on Todd's BD--note the gift bag.

  • Another Coupon Idea

Since I've gotten so thrilled with couponing I'm constantly looking for ways to add to my coupon stash. I don't get the Sunday paper for several reasons. Cellfire won't let me sign in to it no matter what after the first time I did it . . . something seems to be messed up with my Kroger number. And I don't get much else that has coupons EXCEPT that I just got my first "All You" magazine today in the mail after signing up a few weeks ago when someone posted a terrific deal on it that beat the "stand price" all hollow!

So . . . the printable coupons, plus my "All You" coupons. And that leaves this coupon-hungry woman longing for more! It finally sunk into my head (DUH!!!) this week that our library has long had a coupon exchange! I went there Thursday evening (and yes, I'll blog more about Thursday but not tonight--the telling of the day deserves a fresh brain to tackle it!) and settled down at the table and went through SOME of the massive amounts of coupons there, and came home with a stack that was big enough to make any coupon-Her (yes, that was intentional!) happy! Coupons like this: $3.00 off on the brand of razors my hubby uses! What's NOT to like about THAT?!

What did it cost me for this stack of fabulous coupons?? Just some more of my time. And since I have more time than money these days . . . well . . . it was time well worth spent--like being paid some serious money for the 30 minutes I sat there! I am not joking when I say I "made" more in that 30 minutes than my husband mades working in an hour the last while! And there were TONS of goodies left for the next woman. I know where to go with the coupons I won't be using from my magazines. They can bless someone else when I put them there the next time I go.

Check with your library. If they don't have that "program", perhaps they'd be willing to add it to their list of services if they were asked. At my library, it's just a big index card box (probably the largest size they make) sitting on a table that isn't too busy, along with a sign announcing that it's a "Coupon Exchange". People come, browse, take what they need, and leave what they don't want. Simple as that! As long as users are willing to pull out and discard any expired coupons they notice when flipping through, it should be a great system for any library, I would think.

I wish I'd thought to take before and after photos today. Todd got his first professional haircut ever today at the Wal*mart hair salon--and the difference it made in his appearance was astounding! For starters, he needed a hair cut badly--and had been for awhile! Second, due to how curly his hair is, Paul has had fits trying to cut it ever since Todd decided to wear it longer. It kinks, it curls, and no matter what Paul tried, it never looked really GREAT any more. OK, yes, but not a really good haircut. Todd stresses horribly while he's having his hair cut, and usually ends up disgruntled and frustrated afterwards.

For the last while, Paul and I have been trying hard to think of things that could be important to teach Todd to have him more prepared for adulthood, and then work through those. One of the things we came up with was getting a hair cut done professionally. Since getting his hair cut even as a youngster was Soooo stressful to him,  we never thought before it was a good idea to risk getting his hair cut in public! But we are well aware that Daddy isn't always going to be around to do it. Todd needs to learn to know how to go into a hair shop and make sure he can order what type of hair cut he wants.

We started preparing him several months ago by informing him that a professionally done haircut was in his future. We talked about why it was important, and Todd was very open to the idea. And even today when I told him that today was the big day, he seemed fine with it--just a tiny, tiny bit nervous, but not even overly so.

Off we went, and to my delight and surprise, Todd ended up LOVING the experience. He said it was so much less stressful for him--that the stylist used scissors almost the whole time (he's always seriously minded the noise of the hair clippers, as well as the feel of it), that the salon was quieter--no siblings making comments about how much his looks were changing due to the hair fall off his head in great swathes--and "no one running around and almost getting into the hair and making Daddy stressed!" He even let the stylisht shampoo his hair (SHOCK  . . GASP. .  THUMP!) and walked out of the shop looking incredibly good-looking! She managed to keep his hair longer on top like Todd likes, thinned out the thickness so it's more of a a lot of tight curls, and still tamed his sides and back of head. Also, she used a hair softening product which actually is actually fairly healthy looking, based on the ingredients, and that allowed his natural curls to be softer and not so frizzy.

It was such a good experience for Todd that he's ready to go back any time! WHEW . . . what a blessing! Now .. . what else is important to make sure Todd knows and understands before he becomes an adult?!

  • Tips for a Frugal Christmas

Many of us are looking at a tight time economically, with slim wallets. However, we still can enjoy blessing others at Christmas if that is important to you (it is to me. . . .)

    http://momsfrugal.blogspot.com/2009/11/guest-post-christmas-on-zero-budget.html

I'm a big lover of making and giving gift baskets for Christmas.  .  . there's something very satisfying to me about it. While I can't claim it's a zero budget idea, I'm mostly prepared already at a low cost, having collected baskets and mugs from the thrift store all year long. I have ribbon and candles on hand from last year's post-Christmas clearance for 75% off. So, all that remains is to find some good deals on teas, hot chocolate and that type of thing. I'm getting eager to get started on my baskets! The only problem?? I have no where safe and "out of the way" to store them until time to give them, so I can't start "early" on arranging them. Too bad!

Charity is also beading some special things to add to the baskets for a few people that we wish to bless extra. So even she is involved. And when it's time to put every thing together? I'll have 3 children all eager to help!
